The legalization of recreational marijuana sales in California has created many business opportunities for other industries in the cannabis market. Joint ventures, cross-promotions, marketing tie-ins, and hybrid products are all hitting the market as the nation’s largest marijuana market becomes legal. The technology sector, in particular, is capitalizing on this vast and untapped market.cannabis technology lawyers

The Many Ways Tech Companies Are Entering the Marijuana Compliance Market

There are many different ways for technology companies to enter the marijuana market. According to Business Insider, one cannabis-centered social media platform (MassRoots) obtained a subscription service for access to cannabis regulations (CannaRegs). The $12 million stock deal will create a “one-stop shop” for MassRoots users. Now, business owners will be able to ensure they and their customers are in compliance with all federal, state and local regulations. MassRoots found CannaRegs to be a particularly valuable acquisition due to its majority of female leadership, and also its financial status as being cash flow positive and debt-free. It was also determined to be highly necessary in today’s regulation-centric cannabis market. Continue reading

Strategic Logistics

The Napa Valley Register reports that one Napa architect has created a niche for himself in the design of grow houses. In addition to meeting ADA and other code requirements, these designs also integrate ventilation and air filtration systems which help growers maintain healthy crops and profits. Sufficient power – and the use of LED lights to reduce the grow houses’ power demands – are also critical components of the designs which help business owners maintain profitable operations. City and county officials are scrutinizing plans for grow houses more carefully than other buildings, and it is therefore especially important for growers to ensure their plans are made carefully, strategically, and professionally. Both opponents and advocates of marijuana recognize the harm caused by accidental ingestion of cannabis products by children. Edible marijuana candies are of particular concern, as their size, shape, color, and taste makes them particularly attractive to children. Now, Governor Jerry Brown is considering legislation aimed at limiting those edibles which are likely to be accidentally ingested by childrencannabis regulation lawyers

The Increase in Accidental Marijuana Poisonings

A study reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association examined unintentional pediatric exposure to marijuana in Colorado both before and after its recreational use was made legal in that state. The study found that unintentional exposure cases increased more than five times between 2009 (before legalization, in which only 9 children were exposed) and 2015 (after legalization, in which 47 children were exposed). While these cases were only reported from one hospital facility in Aurora, Colorado, the entire state saw a greater increase in unintentional exposure cases than the rest of the country. Baked goods, popcorn, and candy products were involved in more than half of these accidental ingestions. Continue reading

While voters in 26 states plus the District of Columbia have given the green light to laws that legalize marijuana in some form, questions still remain about the legality of certain cannabis advertising campaigns.cannabis Lawyer Riverside

Recently, the Los Angeles Times reported a new venue for advertising recently opened, though it’s not heavily-utilized at this point, and it’s unclear whether it will amount to a sizable business opportunity. U.S.-based air carrier Allegiant Air, headquartered in Las Vegas, NV, has become the first to agree to allow advertising from a marijuana dispensary.

It’s found on the airline’s in-flight magazine, Sunseeker, which ran an advertisement for a marijuana dispensary that produces THC-laden cookies and candies, sold just a few blocks from the strip in Las Vegas. A full view of the kitchen is displayed in bright, colorful pictures on the in-flight magazine. Continue reading

A U.S. Senate panel with considerable power in the federal government is pressing federal agencies to wade into the marijuana industries in ways that some might find surprising. Specifically, there is a request that federal safety testing be conducted on products made by marijuana dispensaries in states where the drug has been legalized. Such standardized marijuana testing could help customers have confidence that their products are safe. marijuana research attorney

Lack of information on the purity and potency of marijuana products distributed to U.S. consumers is of major concern, according to the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee. That’s why its members are asking that federal agencies work together to develop a standard, national testing program for Schedule I products made from marijuana.

The appropriations committee’s recent report instructed qualified scientists at the National Institute on Drug Abuse as well as those working with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to start work on samples of marijuana in order to give the federal government better data that could be used to provide better policy solutions to help protect consumers.  Continue reading

Internet distribution sites like Amazon are on the verge of delivering products – including food and beer – via drone. However, marijuana isn’t soon to be on the short list, at least not in California. The California Bureau of Cannabis Control recently issued updated regulation banning drone delivery of marijuana. marijuana delivery

With state voter approval of legalized marijuana, state regulators are in the process of adopting a host of new rules and distribution in advance of a January 1st deadline for the state to start issuing marijuana retail licenses.

Simply from a new business perspective, the distribution of marijuana is an untapped market. There is an anticipated economic boom that is going to impact everything from security to banking to computer software to real estate to agriculture. Part of the industry is going to involve delivery, in some capacity.  Retailers are going to be seeking out inventive, convenient ways to deliver the product.  Continue reading

California is poised to soon experience a Green Rush. Like its history of industry formed around the Gold Rush, California entrepreneurs are seeking ways to capitalize on the expansive market created by the legalization of recreational marijuana use. Stat News reports that investors are “pouring tens of millions of dollars” into the budding cannabis industry.cannabis business lawyers

Marijuana Technologies Abound

It is not entirely surprising that much of this startup capital comes from the technology industry. Experienced in the art of setting attainable goals to realize a profitable return on investment, venture capital firms have begun to fund a wide variety of marijuana-related technologies. From cannabis-infused skin patches to impaired driving indicators, to the “PotBot” (a “budtender” app which helps users find the perfect strain for their tastes and needs), the research and development is expansive. Like any law, Proposition 64 (California’s Adult Use of Marijuana Act) brought mixed public opinions from both advocates and opponents of marijuana use. Of the many benefits touted by advocates, there is perhaps one surprising example that has been quietly overlooked. The marijuana industry is poised to revive the tiny community of Nipton, California.cannabis business lawyers

Nipton is a small historic mining camp located in the remote Mojave Desert. After the camp was abandoned it was left as a ghost town. The Los Angeles Times reports that it cycled through eight private owners before being sold to American Green for five million dollars. American Green, a cannabis company, plans to turn the town into both a retreat for cannabis enthusiasts and a distribution center for larger manufacturing operations. Continue reading
